House K

Overlooking Lake Lugano, Casa K is a bold presence in dark concrete, its black pigmentation deepening under the sunlight and fading into the gray sky. Behind this austere form, a massive rock juts out from the mountain, almost appearing to enter through the wide windows.
Near the entrance, several Acer palmatum trees contrast with the building’s sharp, dark geometry, bringing a bright green hue in spring that transforms into warm shades of red and yellow in autumn.
Surrounding the house, a forest of beeches, oaks, and sessile oaks is crisscrossed by small paths. Frassinago preserved the existing trees and recreated the undergrowth by planting ferns, liriope, vinca, and wild viburnum. The woodland and its undergrowth gradually merge into the garden bordering the panoramic pool, which opens onto the lake—a seamless fusion of natural elements embracing the view from every angle.
