House C

A dark travertine fountain welcomes and lets water flow at the foot of a brick wall: an essential, geometric garden unexpectedly unfolds in a courtyard in the center of Bologna. Water overflows from one basin to another, reaching a ground-level basin.
Linear travertine inserts in the pavement mark the alternation of gravel and ilex volumes. One of these frames the fountain, extending into a pre-existing ivy-covered wall. Red maples, with soft moss cushions at their base, rise at the sides of the house’s entrance, bringing lightness to the calm rigor of the ensemble.
From the house, through the windows, the garden is both seen and heard: the white noise of the fountain invites meditation, sheltering from the echoes of the city. In the evening, light points illuminate the travertine of the fountain and, almost through an alchemical transformation, make the stone glow like brass. Frassinago creates a garden to soothe the eyes.
